I am supporting two brothers aged 20 and 18. They are both on universal credit and lived with mum, the older brother works part time, zero hours contract. Mum passed away unexpectedly. They are in a social housing tenancy and the HA have said that one of the boys can succeed the tenancy, however we are not sure how they would come off with the rent? Can they both claim the housing element? They are currently in a 4-bed house. Mum died on 19/2/24 so all still a bit raw and does not want to think about moving for a while but they know they may have to in the future? They are worried about getting into rent arrears?
