A DWP report in October 2013 has given the latest figures for allowance/ disallowance for ESA new claims.
· 58 per cent of claimants were entitled to Employment and Support Allowance. Within this –
· 24 per cent of claimants were placed in the Work Related Activity Group, and
· 34 per cent of claimants were placed in the Support Group;
· 42 per cent of claimants were assessed as Fit For Work.
The period covered is from March 2013 to May 2013 and show those who got as far as a decision after completing a medical. Of the 42% who were disallowed, some will become entitled after an appeal (in 2012 around 32% of claimants won their appeals, down from 40% in 2009).
These figures are interesting compared to when ESA was introduced back in 2008; more people are getting ESA and more are getting in the support group.
· 36 per cent of claimants were entitled to Employment and Support Allowance. Within this –
· 25 per cent of claimants were placed in the Work Related Activity Group, and
· 11 per cent of claimants were placed in the Support Group;
· 65 per cent of claimants were assessed as Fit For Work. Click here for our updated WCA under ESA/ Universal Credit– Welfare Reform course running soon.
