Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs(HMRC) pilots have started since April 2012 to test ‘Real time Information’ or RTI .   The system allows employers and pension providers to tell HMRC through PAYE about changes to payments.  By July around 320 employers and pension providers will have joined the pilot.  The system will be rolled out nationally from April 2013.

Universal Credit– this is a pre-cursor to a similar system that will cover most claimants under Universal Credit.  It will allow testing of the technology that will allow automatic notification of changes to be made by employers and pension providers to HMRC through the payroll and then onto the DWP for processing Universal Credit.  The aim is  make the process easier for the claimant, keep claims up to date and help prevent fraud.
