Advisers have been in touch with us about delays in decisions on PIP. In one case, despite complaints, a decision on a claim has still not been made when ATOS carried out a medical 5 months ago(the DWP have still not got the paperwork back from ATOS).

Mike Penning MP, Minister of State for Disabled People, has given details on how PIP is proceeding-

●  30 days is the time limit for 97% of cases for the paperwork to leave the DWP, be handled by (ATOS or CAPITA)

and then be returned to the DWP.

●  up to September 2013 14 PIP appeals had been lodged.

●  Complaints are dealt with by assessment providers(ATOS or CAPITA) not the DWP.

●  CAPITA have employed 172 assessors(as of 13/12/2014) and ATOS 440 assessors(as of 8/11/2013).

●  There is no set length of time each medical should take.

●  A dedicated phone line for clients who are terminally ill may be introduced.

Detailed statistics on claims and decisions are due in the Spring 2014. Click here for our updated Personal Independence Payments Course.
