Latest appeal statistics show that that the number of appeals is increasing mainly due to Personal Independence Payment(PIP) appeals. The rate at which clients win(overturn) their appeals is also increasing.

'In January to March 2016, 41,441 appeals against decisions were received, up 14% when compared with the same period in 2015. Overall there were 157,180 SSCS appeals received in 2015/16, up 40% on 2014/15, mainly driven by the increase in Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims....The overturn rate for those cleared at hearing was 56%, i.e. 56% had the initial decision revised in favour of the claimant. This has increased from 51% in the same quarterlastyear. The overturn rate varies by benefit type with 58% of ESA and DLA cases,43% of JobSeekers Allowance cases and 22% of Housing/Council Tax benefit cleared at hearing having the original decision revised in favour of the claimant.'
