From 3/3/2014 the government has changed the law and closed the bedroom tax loophole that we explained in the last edition of this newsletter. Although some clients may be due arrears, they will be caught again and should be advised accordingly.

Clients should be advised to contact their council to pursue any arrears due for the period 1/4/2013- 2/3/2014. They should request an any time revision of the original decision to impose the bedroom tax in early 2013 and this should allow full arrears to be paid for offcial error. A late appeal could also be requested in case this is not successful but there is an absolute time limit of 13 months after the decision to do this and special reasons for lateness will need to be given.
