Bereavement Support Payments(BSP) is only available at the moment if partners were in a civil partnership or marriage.

The government is considering extending this to cohabiting partners. A report says that this would help' 15,000 claimants to access the benefit and cost £50 million per year. The Judicial Case in January 2020, of Jackson vs the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, seeks a declaration that BSP is incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights, on the basis that it cannot be paid in respect of a cohabiting couple.'
