Atos Healthcare currently deliver all medical assessments for the much criticised assessments for the Work Capability Assessment of Employment and Support Allowance(ESA).
In our September 2012 newsletter we reported that the contracts for medical assessments under PIP had mostly been awarded to Atos. The exceptions are in Wales and Central England where Capita Business Services will be responsible.
Atos have announced they will be sub contracting the work to the NHS- ‘This is a new approach to delivering health and disability assessments working with local NHS services to help ensure a quality service is delivered in a way that best meets local needs. ….Their aim is to provide familiar health professionals, using their own familiar locations who already have roots and knowledge of their local communities.’
