A new law will come into force on 15/9/2025. it allows the Government to pay a winter fuel payment to a person
who, in the week beginning on the third Monday in September (“the qualifying week”) in any year, has reached
pensionable age and is ordinarily resident in England or Wales.
The Winter Fuel Payment(WFP) was cut for most pensioners in 2024/2025. Only those on certain benefts qualifed-
Pension Credit or other means tested benefts- Tax credits, Income Support, JSA(IB), ESA(IR).
Another U turn by the government, means that now 9 million pensioners(of the 12 million pensioners in the
country) will qualify this Winter(2025/2026).
In addition to qualifying by being on the above benefts, those with taxable income of less than £35,000 per annum
individually will also now qualify.
…'No pensioner will need to take any action as they will automatically receive the payment this winter, and for those
with incomes above the threshold it will be automatically recovered via HMRC. The payment of £200 per household,
or £300 per household where there is someone over 80, will be made automatically this winter.'
