A detailed overview focusing on the most problematic areas for professionals. How to use this knowledge to maximise the Housing Benefit of service users and to reduce rent arrears. Ongoing changes linked to Welfare Reform will be highlighted.

This course will include—

  • housing benefit basics
  • qualifying conditions, including the right to reside and habitual residence test

  • how to calculate benefit including premiums, non dependents, local housing allowances and eligible rent
  • the Bedroom Tax and the reductions in the Benefit Cap due in the 2016/17 financial year

  • maximisation of benefit, including backdating/ overpayments, changes to entitlement for those who go abroad

Course accreditation- the Solicitors Regulation Authority has authorised us to award 5.25 hours Continuing Professional Development(CPD) points for solicitors attending this course. Our allocated CPD reference is EJV/SWTL.

Cancellation

If you cancel the course more than 3 weeks before the commencement date, then a £55 administration fee will be payable. The course fee will remain payable if you cancel the course within 3 weeks of the commencement date. If we cancel the course, then full refunds will be paid to participants (excluding other costs, such as travel).

Transfers

You are free to transfer places between employees within your organisation at no extra cost.
