A common problem with Universal Credit is that many claimants don't complete their claims and receive a payment. Often it can lead to them having to reclaim, sometimes multiple times, leading to non payment of benefit and increased rent

arrears.

 

Claimants, particularly those in a vulnerable position, will need help and support at the start of their first UC claim and subsequent claims. They need to ensure they attend initial interviews and make sure they accept their claimant

commitment.
